Let Them PLAY Scholarships

The City of Ocala Recreation and Parks Department recognizes the importance of recreation and the health and wellness benefits it provides to people of all ages, from both a physical and metal standpoint. The Recreation and Parks Department created the “Let them PLAY” scholarship program to give residents experiencing financial hardships the opportunity to enjoy recreation programs and realize the benefits of physical activity and socialization opportunities many people take for granted.

As Let them PLAY continues to grow, the strategy would be to transform the program into a not-for-profit foundation similar to other Recreation and Parks agencies. This foundation would be overseen by the department and continue to fund scholarship opportunities. In addition to scholarships funding could be used to support other programs and park projects so that “let them play” isn’t just about paid programming, but also about providing a playground in a neighborhood park or funding new equipment in a recreation center.
