Orlando Fire Department
Our hearts go out to the Orlando Fire Department and the Huggins family during these trying times.
Fire Museum
Ocala, 1883 - It was an ordinary Thanksgiving Day in the city of Ocala when suddenly, bell tolls filled the air. Fire raged atop the Benjamin & Company store, and threatened to spread to neighboring sites. With wooden structures to fuel the flames' demands, and a lack of water and volunteers to tame them, fire devoured five town blocks before it ceased. The need for a fire brigade was immediately identified, and addressed. Fire bonds to raise funds were soon sold. In a little over a year’s time the first fire hose company was born.
Today, Ocala Fire Rescue is the proud provider or fire suppression and emergency services to the City of Ocala. Growing from humble beginnings as a volunteer hose company, to a career fire department with seven fire stations and over 120 dual-certified personnel ready to respond within a moments notice.
From beginnings forged through sheer necessity to the modern day fire department we are today, Ocala Fire Rescue invites you to experience the events that shaped this organization, the men and women who make up this family, and the innovative instruments that have helped along the way.
