Ocala Fire Rescue
Ocala Fire Rescue Urges the Public to Prioritize Safety this Independence Day (OCALA, FL.) July 2, 2024 โ Fireworks are a classic part of our Independence Day celebrations, but they can pose significant risks if not handled properly. As July 4th approaches, Ocala Fire Rescue is reminding residents to prioritize safety by attending professional displays rather than engaging in personal firework activities. Ocala Fire Rescue has outlined several key safety precautions to keep in mind for those who still choose to use personal fireworks: ๐ Always read and follow instructions. Each firework comes with specific guidelines for safe usage. Ensure you understand and adhere to them strictly. ๐ Set up in a clear, open area. Fireworks should be lit in an area free of flammable materials, buildings, and overhead obstructions. ๐ Keep a safe distance. Spectators should maintain a considerable distance from the launch site to avoid injury from misfires or falling debris. ๐ Have safety equipment on hand. Keep a bucket of water or a hose nearby to extinguish any accidental fires. ๐ Never relight duds. If a firework fails to go off, do not attempt to relight it. Wait 20 minutes before soaking it in water. Professional displays managed by certified technicians offer the awe and excitement this holiday merits without the added risks. By attending youโll be ensuring your familyโs safety while supporting community efforts to celebrate responsibly. Fire Museum
Ocala, 1883 - It was an ordinary Thanksgiving Day in the city of Ocala when suddenly, bell tolls filled the air. Fire raged atop the Benjamin & Company store, and threatened to spread to neighboring sites. With wooden structures to fuel the flames' demands, and a lack of water and volunteers to tame them, fire devoured five town blocks before it ceased. The need for a fire brigade was immediately identified, and addressed. Fire bonds to raise funds were soon sold. In a little over a yearโs time the first fire hose company was born.
Today, Ocala Fire Rescue is the proud provider or fire suppression and emergency services to the City of Ocala. Growing from humble beginnings as a volunteer hose company, to a career fire department with seven fire stations and over 120 dual-certified personnel ready to respond within a moments notice.
From beginnings forged through sheer necessity to the modern day fire department we are today, Ocala Fire Rescue invites you to experience the events that shaped this organization, the men and women who make up this family, and the innovative instruments that have helped along the way.
