Ocala Electric Utility began installing streetlights at bus stops in 1995, in the wake of a tragedy where a child was killed while waiting for the school bus. It was dark, there was no light, and the child stepped onto the road and was struck by a car. Perhaps if there had been a streetlight at the location, the accident could have been avoided.
