A golf cart is a motor vehicle that is designed and manufactured for operation on a golf course for sporting or recreational purposes and that is not capable of exceeding speeds of 20 miles per hour, as defined in F.S. § 320.01(22)
The City of Ocala City Council adopted Ordinance 2020-3, authorizing and regulating the use of golf carts, low-speed vehicles, and mini trucks upon certain designated streets, shown on the map included in the list of documents to the left and approved by City Council via Resolution 2020-4.
- Operation of golf carts is restricted to only licensed drivers. Licensed drivers shall be at least 16 years of age and possess a valid state-issued driver’s license; a learner’s permit is not permissible.
- It is unlawful for an unlicensed driver, defined as a driver who does not hold and possess a valid state-issued driver’s license, to operate a golf cart.
- Golf carts are only permitted in the approved map area.
- Driving on roads over 35 mph is prohibited as stated in Florida Statute 316.212
- Operation is prohibited on sidewalks.
- The operation of a golf cart between sunrise and sunset is prohibited unless the golf cart is equipped with efficient brakes, reliable steering apparatus, safe tires, a rearview mirror, and red reflectorized warning devices in both the front and rear.
- The operation of a golf cart between sunset and sunrise is prohibited unless the golf cart additionally has headlights, brake lights, turn signals and a windshield.
