Post Date:11/07/2021 3:13 PM

OCALA, Fla. (Nov. 7, 2021) – The City of Ocala Water Resources officials have rescinded a Department of Health required Precautionary Boil Water Notice for customers in the 3750 to 4800 block between S Pine Ave. and SE 17th Ave. The original notice was released Friday due to possible contamination of drinking water due to a system malfunction at the City of Ocala’s Emergency Wellfield.

The City of Ocala Water Resources department advises that the water is now safe for brushing teeth, cooking, drinking, making ice, washing dishes, food preparation and other normal daily activities.  The lines in the affected area were flushed and several samples were collected. Tests showed no sign of bacteria for two consecutive days and the chlorine residual meets regulatory standards.

###

OCALA, Fla. (Nov. 5, 2021) – As of today, Nov. 5, City of Ocala Water Resources officials have issued a precautionary boil water advisory affecting the 3750 to 4800 block between S Pine Ave. and SE 17th Ave. On Thursday, Nov. 4, chlorine residual was lost due to a system malfunction at the City of Ocala’s Emergency Wellfield. This may cause contamination of all drinking water in that area.

The City of Ocala Water Resources department advises that all water used for brushing teeth, cooking, drinking, making ice, washing dishes or food preparation be brought to a boil until further notice. Boil water vigorously for one minute and let it cool before use or use bottled water. Boiling water kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.

This precautionary boil water notice will remain in effect until the problem has been corrected and a bacteriological survey shows that the water is safe to drink. Customers will be notified when water conditions have returned to drinking water standards.

For more information, please contact the Water Resources department at 352-351-6775.  General guidelines on ways to lessen the risk of infection by microbes are available from the Environmental Protection Agency Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800- 426-4791.
