Final Public Art Gathering for New Mural Input

OCALA, Fla. (Sept. 14, 2021) The City of Ocala’s Cultural Arts and Sciences Division, along with Fine Arts for Ocala (FAFO), Racial Equity and Cultural Harmony (REACH), and the Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Commission, is hosting a series of public input sessions to gather feedback from the community on a new mural concept. The mural will be featured on the west and south-facing walls of the E. D. Croskey Recreation Center, 1510 NW Fourth St.

The final gathering is Saturday, Sept. 18, 10 a.m.  Participants are invited to discuss their childhood experiences and share stories about using the E. D. Croskey Recreation Center. Muralist Cosby Hayes and literary artist Dr. Cynthia Graham will be on site to gather input and document the process. Participants are encouraged to bring pictures to share with the artists.

The gathering will be held at the E. D. Croskey Recreation Center, is free to attend and open to the public. There will be temperature checks upon entry and cleaning procedures will be in place. Per current CDC guidelines for public indoor settings in areas of substantial or high community transmission, all attendees are strongly encouraged to wear face coverings to cover the nose and mouth, maintain a proper social distance of six feet and frequently sanitize their hands. Presentation of the final design will be held Friday, Oct. 8, 6 p.m.
