'Attack of the Bloodsuckers!' Opens at Discovery Center - May 25

OCALA, Fla. (May 8, 2024) – The Discovery Center’s newest exhibit, ‘Attack of the Bloodsuckers!’, opens to the public Saturday, May 25 and will be on display through Saturday, Aug. 31 at the Discovery Center, 701 NE Sanchez Ave. The center is open Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Discovery Center will be closed to the public May 13 through 24 for exhibit change.

Discover the science behind bloodsucking creatures. Dive into the world of mosquitos, fleas, ticks, leeches, and other parasites. Guests will explore their characteristics, habitats, the reasons they bite and the role they play in the ecosystem. Visitors will understand how they are attracted to heat and the carbon dioxide in your breath, while learning to identify them.

Members of Discovery Center will get early access to the new exhibit starting at 9:30 a.m. Members must bring membership cards to get early access.

General admission to the Discovery Center is $8 per person or $28 for a family of four. Annual memberships are also available for individuals and families.

This exhibit is sponsored by Marion Rotary Duck Derby, Ocala Electric Utilities, and the Discovery Center Foundation. ‘Attack of the Bloodsuckers!’ is produced by Environmental Exhibit Collaborative (EEC), a partnership of the ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center, Burlington, Vermont; EcoTarium, Worcester, Massachusetts; and the Children’s Museum of Maine, Portland, Maine, and made possible by grants from Jane's Trust, Cabot Family Charitable Trust, and the U.S. Institute for Museum and Library Services.
