City of Ocala Plans to Access Supplemental Water Wellfield

Post Date:04/21/2023 10:45 AM

OCALA, Fla. (April 21, 2023) – The City of Ocala Water Resources Department will begin to pump, disinfect, and distribute water from a supplemental offsite water wellfield. This water wellfield will be used to meet the increased water demands within the city and improve water pressure output.

Due to the location of the well, water pumped from this well will not undergo lime softening treatment, which removes the water hardness (calcium and magnesium) but will not impact the taste, color, or smell of the water that customers receive. All water sent to City of Ocala customers will be disinfected and meet Safe Drinking Water Act standards.

April is traditionally the driest month of the year in Florida and as a result, water demand rises. To reduce the strain on natural resources, customers are encouraged to practice water conservation techniques every day.  Ways to reduce water consumption include shortening shower time, reducing, or ceasing your irrigation times, and only washing full loads of laundry. For more water-saving tips please visit https://www.ocalafl.org/government/city-departments-i-z/water-resources/water-conservation.

The City of Ocala customers are encouraged to reduce their outdoor water usage and should follow the city’s irrigation ordinance (Sec. 118-138). During Daylight Saving Time, residential landscape irrigation at odd-numbered addresses, or for properties with no address, may occur only on Wednesday and Saturday, and shall not occur between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Residential landscape irrigation at even-numbered addresses may occur only on Thursday and Sunday and shall not occur between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. No more than three-fourths inches of water may be applied per irrigation zone on each day that irrigation occurs, and in no event shall irrigation occur for more than one hour per irrigation zone on each day that irrigation occurs.

For more information, please call the City of Ocala’s Water Resources Department at 352-351-6772.
