'Spectrum of Creativity' 2021 Student and Emerging Artist Award Winners Announced

OCALA, Fla. (April 22, 2021) – Winners of the ‘SPECTRUM OF CREATIVITY’ Student and Emerging Artist awards were announced Wednesday, April 21 during the opening artist reception. The reception was hosted by the City of Ocala Recreation and Parks, Cultural Arts and Sciences Division, in partnership with Magnolia Art Xchange (MAX). The awards have been presented annually since 2016 to local student and emerging artists. 

This year’s winners are:

High School Category

  • First Place:  Saturdays, Marquelase Silverman
  • Second Place:  As Long As We Can Runaway, Breanna Corley
  • Third Place:  Memories, Alexis Cheney

One to Five Years Active Experience Category

  • First Place:  Memory, Emily Lane Ferguson
  • Second Place:  Beyond Beyond, Kyle Corley
  • Third Place:  Speculumest Stagnum, Jordin Wagoner

Six to Ten Years Active Experience Category

  • First Place:  Spirit of the Rose, Dan McCarthy
  • Second Place:  Passion, Pain, and Demon Slayin’, Ryan Andrew Neuman
  • Third Place:  Cotton Candy Sunset, Ali Graves

 Best in Show 

  • Muse, Jae’da Samuel-McKnight

“It was really wonderful to see the range of artwork in this show and the broad range of media,” said Marissa S. Hershon, curator of Ca’ d’Zan and Decorative Arts and the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art.  “I was excited to see works that were going from paper, to watercolor, to canvas, painting, and photography.  It was really great to see all of the creative energy put into the variety of these mediums.”

Prizes for this competition include more than $2,000 in awards, including scholarships to the College of Central Florida (CF), a feature in Ocala Magazine (Best of Show), a professional artwork scan (first place in each division and Best of Show), an annual membership to the Appleton Museum of Art and Marion Cultural Alliance, a MAX Affiliate Artist Membership and a registration fee waiver for the 2021-22 season of First Friday Art Walk (all winners).
