Celebrate Arbor Day at Earthfest Saturday, April 24

OCALA, Fla. (March 23, 2021) – The City of Ocala Recreation and Parks Department announces Earthfest, Ocala’s Arbor day celebration, Saturday, April 24, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Tuscawilla Park located at 800 NE Sanchez Ave.

Earthfest will offer plenty of activities for adults and kids alike. The popular Youth Fishing Derby will return this year, 9 a.m. to noon. This free event allows youth ages 14 and under the chance to catch and release fish at Lake Tuscawilla. Prizes will be awarded in three age group brackets for catching the most fish and catching the biggest fish.  Participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment and bait; however, a limited amount of supplies will be available. Registration is not required.

In addition to the Youth Fishing Derby, the event will also include tree climbing, rock wall climbing, archery, eco-friendly vendors, an interactive butterfly exhibit, animal rescues, yoga in the park, food trucks, and live entertainment by Propaganjah. Tree sapling giveaways are available on a first come, first served basis. This event is sponsored in part by Ocala Water Resources and Maricamp Animal Hospital.

City Events

All advertised city events are scheduled to take place, as planned.  However, the final disposition of these events will be evaluated, based on guidance from local health department officials and current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines.  As such, all city events are subject to postponement or cancellation based on the current recommendations and guidelines for preventing the spread of COVID-19.

Events that do take place as scheduled will be implemented with health and safety protocols in place.  Visitors choosing to participate are encouraged to follow CDC guidelines for face coverings and social distancing.
