Opening Reception: 'Spectrum of Creativity' Student and Emerging Artist Competition

OCALA, Fla. (April 15, 2021) – The City of Ocala and Magnolia Art Xchange (MAX) invite the public to an opening exhibit reception for the “SPECTRUM OF CREATIVITY” Student and Emerging Artist Competition Wednesday, April 21, 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, 110 SE Watula Ave.

Guests will experience the work of local student and emerging artists on display while enjoying live music by Prestine Allen. The patio at Citizens Circle will be open for reception guests to remain socially distanced.  All guests must wear a face covering while inside buildings and adhere to a physical distance of six feet apart. Complimentary, individually packaged refreshments will be provided.

A video presentation of juror Marissa Hershon announcing this year’s placing artists in each division, along with Best of Show, will be shown during the reception. Awards will be presented at 6 p.m.

Prizes for this competition include more than $2,000 in awards, including scholarships to the College of Central Florida (CF), a feature in Ocala Magazine (Best of Show), a professional artwork scan (first place in each division and Best of Show), an annual membership to the Appleton Museum of Art and Marion Cultural Alliance, a MAX Affiliate Artist Membership and a registration fee waiver for the 2021-22 season of First Friday Art Walk (all winners).

This event is sponsored by the City of Ocala, MAX, Appleton Museum of Art, College of Central Florida, Grafito Advertising, Marion Cultural Alliance and Ocala Magazine.

City Events

All advertised city events are scheduled to take place, as planned.  However, the final disposition of these events will be evaluated, based on guidance from local health department officials and current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines.  As such, all city events are subject to postponement or cancellation based on the current recommendations and guidelines for preventing the spread of COVID-19.

Events that do take place as scheduled will be implemented with health and safety protocols in place.  Visitors choosing to participate are encouraged to follow CDC guidelines for face coverings and social distancing.
