City of Ocala Announces Ocala Electric Utility Director

OCALA, Fla. (Feb. 23, 2022) – The City of Ocala, along with Ocala Electric Utility (OEU), has announced Doug Peebles as the new Director for OEU.  Mr. Peebles served as the Deputy Director for OEU since May 2021 and accepted the role of Director in January 2022.  Currently, Peebles oversees the entire OEU Department, including Transmission and Distribution, Construction, Automated Meter Infrastructure (AMI) Operations, Public Education and Outreach, Resource Management, Substations, Engineering, System Operations and Power Compliance. 

Peebles has 21 years of experience in the utility industry, including roles in Transmission & Distribution, Revenue Metering, and Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI).  In his previous role as Deputy Director for OEU, Doug was responsible for Engineering, Resource Management, AMI Operations, System Control Center and Substation/Relay Divisions.

Peebles graduated from Ocala’s Apprenticeship Program as an FDOE State Certified Meter Technician. Doug is also a graduate of Leadership Ocala/Marion, Class XXVIII (LOM).

Peebles is an active participant in the City of Ocala and the surrounding community. He currently serves on the LOM and Leadership Ocala/Marion Youth (LOMY) Board of Regents, has chaired Ocala’s Apprenticeship Committee for many years, and currently serves as Chairman for the City of Ocala’s General Pension Board.

Doug Peebles is married and has two teenage boys. His family enjoys spending time outdoors and participating in Marion County’s 4-H program.
